About SFC

Do you want to accelerate your development with expert coaching and additional training?

Is your ambition to reach the next level whether that be Tier 1/2 soccer, college/university, or the semi/professional level?

Are you looking for a different perspective, coaching style, or different training?

SFC is all about developing individuals. SFC offers 1 on 1 and small group training to improve the physical, technical, tactical, and psycho-social areas of the game.

SFC is a supplementary soccer training program that was founded in 2022 by coach Michael Steuart in Victoria, BC. SFC strives to give local players the opportunity to train in a high performance environment and improve their skills to take their game to the next level and achieve their goals.

Our philosophy of player development is that the ideal player is one who is a master of solving the problems posed on the soccer field. The basis of solving any problem is to take the correct action in the correct moment. With this in mind, you must first be able to execute the necessary action. This requires building a foundation of physical athletic ability and technical ability. Alongside these fundamental requirements, you must be able to accurately recognize the problem and identify the best solution very quickly. A player with these abilities will be very well equipped to handle the demands of the game and to carry out their role on their team.

Our outlook on player development looks at each individual’s soccer age alongside their biological age. A player’s soccer age takes into account both their mental, and physical development to give each player the best training environment possible.

The focus at SFC is primarily on the development of the foundation of Physical and Technical skills that every players needs to have success on the field. In group sessions, we can also incorporate technical-tactical topics.

  • Speed
  • Agility
  • Coordination
  • Balance

The SFC Badge represents energy.

The lightning bolt and bright yellow colour is representative of the energy and spark that in inside every person. That unique energy that can translate into the way we conduct ourselves, the way we train, and the things we will achieve.

We each have a choice in every moment as to where we direct our energy and focus. At SFC we will direct that energy towards improving our fitness and soccer skill each day.

Coach Michael Steuart

There’s nothing that I’ve found on this earth that gets me excited the way soccer does, whether I’m watching a local team play in the community, playing myself, or watching a documentary about the game’s greatest moments, soccer always seems to light a spark and fill me with joy and energy.

I grew up playing soccer in North Delta BC, and I started coaching when I was 16 with the North Delta Soccer Club academy with A License coach Ajit Braich. After 2 years there, I moved to Victoria for university and began coaching with Bays United as a Technical Staff coach from 2018-2021 with Eufa A License coach, and former Zimbabwean National Team player, Eddie Mukahanana. In 2021, I made the move over to Westcastle International Academy (WIA) for their inaugural season with Eddie and have been coaching there ever since. At WIA, I hold the role of Technical Lead of our Discovery Centre programs, Skills Centre Coach, Assistant coach on the Pre-Collegiate teams, and assistant coach of the Division 1 Men’s team in the VISL. In addition, for the past year I’ve worked as a technical staff with Prospect Lake Soccer Club, and worked at the Dunsmuir Middle School soccer academy.

My experience coaching on Vancouver Island has given me a unique perspective which allows me to help players in many different contexts improve their game. I want to share my passion for the game with every player that trains with SFC and to help the next generation of players achieve their goals on and off the pitch.

In addition, my background and interest in psychology places me in the position to help players grow in confidence, and pass along effective strategies for coping, goal pursuit, focus, and more.

My Certifications

Tony M. Parent

My son Jack has had an extremely positive experience working with Coach Michael. He has a great way with the kids and brings a high level of expertise. Jack's confidence grew alongside his soccer skills and he often performs skills he's learned with Michael in game. I'd highly recommend Coach Michael.
